Saving Seeds
One of our favorite Red Gate Farm activities is seed saving. The process itself can be done any time of year, but it’s most commonly done in late summer and early fall, so we often to do as an elective with our fall school programs. The process is practical, fun and rewarding.
It’s a favorite activity with kids of all ages and one of those things that we get to talk about with kids all year long. Our spring school programs might find themselves planting and preparing the garden that students will later harvest seeds from. Our summer program kids are planting, weeding, and caring for the garden with lots of opportunity to compare and even taste seeds!
